Wear PJ's Wed/ Thursday

PJ’s and Stories
When:  Wednesday Dec 20, 2017 &
  Thursday Dec 21,2017
What: Children are invited to wear their Pajamas (PJs) to school and bring a small stuffed animal that can fit in their backpack.  No slippers for safety.  If your child finds wearing PJs confusing that's okay, just dress them in something comfy and pack their PJs in case they change their mind later.
Why: To complete our author study on Don and Audrey Wood, we will be exploring student’s favorite authors and illustrators. Many parents have asked to come in to read their child’s favorite book.  All day long we will be inviting in guest readers to share their child’s favorite story books.  To make the day complete we will also be making cookies.
How: Please send Ms. Marylin an email of the book you would like to read or if you would like to help bake cookies.  Please remember that volunteering is only for one parent at a time, and you will be assigned a SPECIFIC TIME to come to school that day.  Some books will be read during small group time and others during large group time.

Regretfully we cannot accommodate siblings as this is a regular school day

Make sure to LABEL all your child’s belongings!!
Everyone has black snow pants & boots.

Don’t forget to pack a pair of shoes/sneakers in your child’s backpack to change into after.  For Safety Reasons, we ask that you NOT send in slippers.

If your child’s backpack is too small or to heavy feel free to send in 2 bags.
A back pack for everyday items and a second reusable bag for winter belongings.

Author Study/tradition sharing/shapes

This month we will be exploring the concepts of author and illustrator.  We will try our hands at writing and drawing a class book. For reading and exploring these concepts our focus will be on books by Don and Audrey Wood. Wood website  In addition we are exploring shapes, describing them, creating them, making things out of them and their mathematical names, such as circle, square, triangle, rhombus and rectangle.

On a side note many families are embracing the holiday season that includes Santa and Elf on the shelf.  Children are always welcome to share their experiences and will be honored.  As a group our focus will be to maintained the classroom routine to help provide consistency during this exciting time.  If you have a non religious story, family craft or tradition that you'd like to share please let me know so we set up a time for you to come into the classroom. Bennettma@franklinps.net

I'd like to welcome our middle school helpers to ever class.  In total their are 14 helpers over the 5 days.  Each middle schooler comes in with a partner and plays with the students, with teacher guidance for approximately 45 minutes during our work/discovery time.

As the year progresses we will continuously add student to our school community. From time to time I will post a new class picture to include our new friends as appropriate.  Please keep in mind due to confidenciality not every family is comfortable having photos of their child posted or information shared.  If you have any questions about your own child, I am happy to speak with you.

The students are exploring the book Piggies and finger puppets created by Don & Audrey Wood

This week we read the book Piggies by Don & Audrey Wood.  We worked on strengthening our hands by practicing touching each finger to our thumb and then we made piggy finger puppets.

Here we are singing Tommy Thumb with out puppets.  We also learned where is Thunbkin.

Here students are drawing and practicing being an illustrator

Exploring shapes, lines and curves with home made plays doh, made by a parent volunteer!

Counting and feeding dog bones using our pincher grasp.

We are learning to write the first letter of our names starting at the top with the help of Ms Sandra.

This weeks question of the day was "Do you know the first letter of your name?"

Exploring what we can make with shapes. This helps with visual perception.
